Not only did he make significant economic advancement in the district, he also gave life to the wine industry in the region. His family continued to his oenological vision and eventually created the Rymill Coonawarra Winery in 1974. The winery is currently under the management of the fifth generation of the family, John Ritchie Rymill.

Rymill Coonawarra Winery’s insignia of two horses, as well as the two bronze stallions rampant by Gabriel Sterk at the entrance of the winery, embodies the family’s love for these animals, with John’s parents, Peter and Judy, as national show-jumping champions in the 1960′s.
