Hewitson 2010 Old Garden Mourvèdre

“This ancient vineyard (planted in 1853) is a source of profound and distinctive wine that delivered handsomely in 2010. There’s an unmistakably sanguine edge to this: meaty and earthy, darkblue fruits and a wealth of black, graphite-like terroir character. The palate scoops deep and even, really soulful dense tannins with dark berry, dark spice and earthy, meaty flavours all rolling through, not aggressive, just menacingly long and purposeful wine here.”

Hewitson 2010 Baby Bush Mourvèdre

“There’s lovely depth and mellow appeal in this young-vine mourvedre, which shows black cherry, savoury sanguine earthy notes and a little peppery chocolate too. The palate delivers liquorice and plum flavour, deep yet elegant; fine tannins really perform evenly. Great value here.”

Bright purple. Expressive aromas of black raspberry, woodsmoke, violet and cracked pepper. Intensely flavored but light on its feet, with good spicy lift to its dark berry and floral pastille flavors. Finishes with supple tannins and very good, floral-dominated persistence.
